Yoga for a Calm Brain

Jun 09, 2025
Let me tell you a little story…I went cross-country skiing today with Goose this morning. I am skiing along, fresh air on my skin, muscles working, Goose frolicking in the snow…and 20 minutes in, I notice that I am missing it all because I am caught in a loop (a very familiar loop) about a thing that happened well over two years ago.

!!!!!

Why, human brain, why?!

This is what we do…our minds story-make, ego-trip, future stress, past shame spiral, etc, etc. Whatever your flavor, I know you experience it too. Or maybe you are enlightened, I don't know :)

And it is okay. Yoga and mindfulness practices teach us that when we notice we are caught in a story, we come home again. And again. And again.

Reconnect to the air on your skin, the breath in your lungs, the heartbeat inside of your chest. Appreciate your feet that carry you everywhere, your heart that loves so hard, and this brain that thinks its way through all of the problems to be solved.

Simple, but not always easy.

In this very moment…can you connect with your breath? Can you notice that you are safe? Can you appreciate the body you live in? The clothes on your back? The food on your table? Something as simple as the next breath of fresh air?
